Auto-lysed yeast and yeast extract effects on dry matter intake, blood cells counts, IgG titer and gene expression of IL-2 in lactating dairy cows under heat stress Animal Sciences
Adili, Sogol; Sadeghi, Ali Asghar; Chamani, Mohamad; Shawrang, Parvin; Forodi, Farhad.
The objective of this study was to assess the effects of auto-lysed yeast and yeast extract on performance and immune responses of cows in hot climate in the early lactation period. Twenty five lactating dairy cows randomly assigned to 5 groups and 5 replicates. Cows received basal diet with or without auto-lysed yeast (20 or 40 g/d/head) or yeast extract (20 or 40 g/d/head) as on top-dressed. There were no differences for daily dry matter intake, milk production milk fat and the counts of red blood cells and white blood cells among treatments (p > 0.05). There were significant differences among treatments for immunoglobulin G (IgG) level, lymphocyte and neutrophil percentages. Yeast extract had no effect on IgG level, but auto-lysed yeast increased...

Distribution and Quantification of Lymphocytes in the Major Lymphoid Organs of Naturally Gumboro Infected Broilers International Journal of Morphology
Uddin,Mohammad Mejbah; Islam,Mohammad Saiful; Basu,Joyita; Khan,Md. Zahirul Islam.
Gumboro disease is caused by the infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) which rapidly destroys immature B-lymphocytes of bursa of Fabricious, and causes immune suppression and high mortality in commercial broiler farms in Bangladesh. To investigate the possible effect of IBDV on lymphocytes and its distribution in the major lymphoid organs, bursa of Fabricious including spleen and thymus of naturally Gumboro-infected broilers, a research was conducted in the Department of Anatomy and Histology, collaboration with the Department of Pathology, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh. Bursa of Fabricious, spleen and thymus of 21-days-old Gumboro-infected and non-infected broilers of same age (control) were routinely processed and stained by hematoxylin...

Dose assessment by quantification of chromosome aberrations and micronuclei in peripheral blood lymphocytes from patients exposed to gamma radiation Genet. Mol. Biol.
Silva-Barbosa,Isvânia; Pereira-Magnata,Símey; Amaral,Ademir; Sotero,Graça; Melo,Homero Cavalcanti.
Scoring of unstable chromosome aberrations (dicentrics, rings and fragments) and micronuclei in circulating lymphocytes are the most extensively studied biological means for estimating individual exposure to ionizing radiation (IR), which can be used as complementary methods to physical dosimetry or when the latter cannot be performed. In this work, the quantification of the frequencies of chromosome aberrations and micronuclei were carried out based on cytogenetic analyses of peripheral blood samples from 5 patients with cervical uterine cancer following radiotherapy in order to evaluate the absorbed dose as a result of partial-body exposure to 60Co source. Blood samples were collected from each patient in three phases of the treatment: before...

Effect of substitution of corn for molasses in diet on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, blood characteristics, fecal noxious gas emission, and meat quality in finishing pigs R. Bras. Zootec.
Sureshkumar,Shanmugam; Lee,Sang In; Nam,Doo Seok; Kim,In Ho.
ABSTRACT The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of molasses as a substitute for corn in diet on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, blood characteristics, fecal noxious gas emission, and meat quality in finishing pigs. A total of 120 [(Landrace × Yorkshire) × Duroc] pigs with an average initial body weight (BW) of 54.21±2.62 kg were used in this experiment. Pigs were randomly assigned to 1 of the 3 dietary treatments on the basis of BW and sex (10 replicate pens per treatment with four pigs per pen: two gilts and two barrows in each pen). The experiment was divided into two phases: 0-5 weeks and 6-10 weeks. Dietary treatments were as follows: control, basal diet; control + 2.5% cane molasses; and control + 5% cane molasses. No...

Immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory effects of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids BJMBR
Calder,P.C..
1. Fish oils are rich in the long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), eicosapentaenoic (20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic (22:6n-3) acids. Linseed oil and green plant tissues are rich in the precursor fatty acid, a-linolenic acid (18:3n-3). Most vegetable oils are rich in the n-6 PUFA linoleic acid (18:2n-6), the precursor of arachidonic acid (20:4n-6). 2. Arachidonic acid-derived eicosanoids such as prostaglandin E2 are pro-inflammatory and regulate the functions of cells of the immune system. Consumption of fish oils leads to replacement of arachidonic acid in cell membranes by eicosapentaenoic acid. This changes the amount and alters the balance of eicosanoids produced. 3. Consumption of fish oils diminishes...

Leukocytosis, muscle damage and increased lymphocyte proliferative response after an adventure sprint race BJMBR
Tossige-Gomes,R.; Ottone,V.O.; Oliveira,P.N.; Viana,D.J.S.; Araújo,T.L.; Gripp,F.J.; Rocha-Vieira,E..
The effect of an adventure sprint race (ASR) on T-cell proliferation, leukocyte count and muscle damage was evaluated. Seven young male runners completed an ASR in the region of Serra do Espinhaço, Brazil. The race induced a strong leukocytosis (6.22±2.04×103 cells/mm3 beforevs 14.81±3.53×103 cells/mm3after the race), marked by a significant increase of neutrophils and monocytes (P<0.05), but not total lymphocytes, CD3+CD4+ or CD3+CD8+ cells. However, the T-cell proliferative response to mitogenic stimulation was increased (P=0.025) after the race, which contradicted our hypothesis that ASR, as a high-demand competition, would inhibit T-cell proliferation. A positive correlation (P=0.03, r=0.79) was observed between the proliferative response of...

Profound peripheral T-lymphocyte depletion and activation in disseminated tuberculosis BJID
Rodrigues,Denise Silva; Salomão,Reinaldo; Kallas,Esper Georges.
Three HIV-1-seronegative patients with disseminated tuberculosis presented significant depletion of T-cell counts, in CD4+ and/or CD8+ cells, associated with increased expression of activation marker CD38 on CD8+ T-lymphocytes. This finding raises the question of potential mechanisms involved in the activation or loss of T-cells in disseminated tuberculosis.

Whole-body vibration decreases the proliferativeb response of TCD4+ cells in elderly individuals with knee osteoarthritis BJMBR
Tossige-Gomes,R.; Avelar,N.C.P.; Simão,A.P.; Neves,C.D.C.; Brito-Melo,G.E.A.; Coimbra,C.C.; Rocha-Vieira,E.; Lacerda,A.C.R..
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of adding whole-body vibration (WBV; frequency = 35 to 40 Hz; amplitude = 4 mm) to squat training on the T-cell proliferative response of elderly patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. This study was a randomized controlled trial in which the selected variables were assessed before and after 12 weeks of training. Twenty-six subjects (72 ± 5 years of age) were divided into three groups: 1) squat training with WBV (WBV, N = 8); 2) squat training without WBV (N = 10), and 3) a control group (N = 8). Women who were ≥60 years of age and had been diagnosed with OA in at least one knee were eligible. The intervention consisted of 12 uninterrupted weeks of squatting exercise training performed 3...

The clinical courses of three canine tumor cases were observed after administration of capsulated Hatakeshimeji extract (Lyophyllum decastes Sing.). The liver tumor case died one month after administration of the ectract, the rectal carcinoma case in nine months. but the brain tumor case is alive for 23 months. However it is unclear what directly effect the administration Hatakeshimeji has on a tumor, the number of lymphocytes increased after the administration of Hatakeshimeji in all thrεe cases. Therefore,it suggests that Hatakeshimeji plays a role in...
